John Berkeley is a craftsman living in England. He has made four series of Classic Professor Hoffmann puzzles from the book, Puzzles Old & New, 1893. The book was republished twice by Edward Hordern with the last one having color plates of antique examples of the puzzles. The photograph below shows some of the Hoffmann puzzles in the Hordern collection.
 
The majority of the wooden mechanical puzzles in the Hoffmann book are turnings from boxwood. They are almost all in the take-apart category. The reproductions made by John Berkeley are all museum-quality works from rare and expensive exotic hardwoods.
