The objective is to open the box.
First line up the grain of the wood. Then turn the box upside down and a brass pin locking the two halves will fall into a recess in the top allowing the halves to be unscrewed. This is clearly shown in the drawing from Professor Hoffmann's Puzzles Old & New, 1893. | ||
